Uptime Monitoring
Uptime monitoring is the core of Pulsewise. It sends HTTP requests to your site from multiple locations around the world and alerts you when your site is unreachable.
Available on: All plans
How it works
Pulsewise sends an HTTP GET request to your site's URL at the interval you configure. Each check records the HTTP status code and response time.
A site is considered down when:
- The request times out (default 5-second timeout)
- The server returns a 5xx status code
- The connection is refused, reset, or fails DNS resolution
Multi-location verification
When a check from the primary location detects your site is down, Pulsewise automatically verifies from a secondary location before sending a notification. This prevents false alarms caused by transient network issues between a single monitoring location and your server.
Only after both locations confirm the site is unreachable does Pulsewise mark it as offline and trigger notifications.
Check locations
Pulsewise monitors from five geographic regions:
| Location | Region |
|---|---|
| Sydney, Australia | Asia-Pacific |
| Singapore | Asia-Pacific |
| New York, USA | North America |
| London, UK | Europe |
| Frankfurt, Germany | Europe |
Check frequency
You can configure how often Pulsewise checks your site. Available intervals depend on your plan:
- Every 1 minute
- Every 2 minutes
- Every 5 minutes
- Every 10 minutes
Response time tracking
Every uptime check records the response time in milliseconds. Pulsewise tracks this over time so you can spot performance trends on the uptime dashboard.
Performance monitoring
Pulsewise analyses response time trends automatically. It compares the average response time over the last 15 minutes against the previous 45 minutes. When response times degrade or improve beyond a threshold, you'll receive a notification.
Downtime notifications
When your site goes offline, Pulsewise sends a notification immediately. If the site remains offline, reminder notifications are sent every 30 minutes by default. When the site comes back online, a recovery notification is sent.
| Notification | Severity | When |
|---|---|---|
| Site Offline | Critical | Site confirmed down from multiple locations |
| Site Offline Reminder | Critical | Site still down (every 30 minutes) |
| Site Online | Info | Site has recovered |
| Performance Degraded | Warning | Response times have worsened |
| Performance Improved | Info | Response times have improved |
Snoozing alerts
If you're performing maintenance and expect temporary downtime, you can snooze uptime alerts for a specific duration. During the snooze period, checks continue running but notifications are suppressed.
