Sitemap Monitoring
Your XML sitemap tells search engines which pages to crawl. Pulsewise monitors your sitemap to make sure it's valid, accessible, and not losing URLs unexpectedly.
Available on: Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans Default frequency: Every 1 hour
How it works
Pulsewise fetches your sitemap URL and validates it:
- Accessibility — Checks that the sitemap returns a successful HTTP response
- XML validation — Verifies the sitemap is well-formed XML
- URL counting — Counts the number of unique URLs in the sitemap
- Sitemap index detection — If your sitemap is an index file, Pulsewise counts the sub-sitemaps referenced
Change tracking
Each check compares the current URL count against the previous check and calculates the percentage change. A significant drop in URLs could indicate pages being accidentally removed from your sitemap.
What you'll see
The sitemap monitoring page shows:
- Sitemap URL and HTTP status code
- Whether the XML is valid
- Number of URLs found
- Number of sitemap files (for sitemap indexes)
- Percentage change since the last check
- Any validation errors
